Japanese fish printing, known as Gyotaku, has a rich and intriguing history dating back to the mid-19th century. Originating as a method for fishermen to record their catches, Gyotaku evolved into an art form blending practicality with aesthetic expression. Initially, fishermen would apply sumi ink directly onto their freshly caught fish, then carefully press washi paper onto the inked surface to create a detailed impression.
